Pregnancy at 25 weeks
Baby
Your baby is gaining weight rapidly. At 25 weeks they weigh about 0.7 kg and their heart beats at a rate of 140 beats per minute—much faster than after birth.
This week will open the baby's eyelids for the first time. Their brain waves regulate what they see and hear, and their senses all improve. The brain, lungs, and digestive system are formed, but they have not yet finished growing.
The lungs are still immature, but they are also developing rapidly. Your baby will have a close 80% chance of surviving in intensive care if they are born now but will still need help breathing for a long time.

Body
As your uterus expands upwards, you may feel discomfort around your ribs. You may also suffer from indigestion and stomach acidity. You can control these symptoms by eating much smaller meals and avoiding certain foods and drinks. If indigestion and heartburn bother you, consult your doctor. Sometimes it can be a symptom of a more serious condition, such as preeclampsia.
Another common problem you may start to notice is leg cramps, especially when you go to bed. They are not serious but can become completely uncomfortable. You can relieve cramps by stretching your leg and pulling your toes back toward your knee or by standing and putting your weight on your leg.
Things to remember
As you approach the end of your second trimester, it's a good idea to talk to your partner or support person about going to the hospital when the time comes. Think about how to get there—don't drive yourself—and what you'll do if you can't catch anyone when you go into labor. Remember that things can happen faster than you expect, so making a plan will help you know what to do if you're surprised.
